The Sacred Grove and The Children's Museum
On Saturday we decided to make a temple trip..so we all got up waaay early and got on the road to Palmyra by 7:30. I'm not going to lie to you..it was quite the challenge..the baby woke up quite a bit that night (very unusual for her)and when I rolled over for the alarm it was very tempting to send 'R' alone..but he kept coming in and encouraging me out of bed so we made it.
'R' did a session while the kids and I went to the Hill Cumorah Visitors Center. While we were there we watched 'Joseph Smith, Prophet of the Restoration' It was the first time the kids had watched it. It was powerful and to be at the sites where it all took place made it even more powerful! 'P' always asks my husband to tell her the story about Jospeh's 'sickness in his leg' so for her to see a portrayal of it made it real to her. There were a couple of parts in the film where it scared the kids or upset them a litte, understandably so. The one that scared them the most was the scene where Joseph is in the Sacred Grove and he is overcome by Satan. She never fully understood what that meant and how wonderful a miracle it was to have God the Father and Jesus Christ appear to Joseph at that moment and cast Satan away.
When the movie was over, the Senior missionary came in and talked to the kids. He pulled out a few dollars and gave them each two, telling them one was for their mission and the other was for a treat.
Then it was my turn to go to the temple. We met 'R' and he took the kids on a walk down to the Smith farm and through the Sacred Grove.

'P' asked all sorts of questions about Joseph and the first vision and Satan in the grove. It was a great opportunity for him to teach and testify.

Afterwards we drove to Rochester to visit our friends who just had a new baby girl! The kids loved to see their tiny baby (we don't have babies that small!) then we left and made it home just in time to do a quick clean up and feed the missionaries (Cafe Rio, yum!!)
Our daughter has spring break all week. On monday we went to the Children's Museum with some of our friends!

Boy was it crowded! We've had such beautiful weather all week and can't wait to have more fun for her vacation.

I will never make another excuse for not being able to go to the temple more often cause of Anna. If you can make it with 3 kids and a temple not close by - anyone can. That part in the movie was scary, even for me - your kids are so dang cute, smart...and really know how to work a camera ;) Seriously though, my mom couldn't work a camera like that!
i'm so impressed by you, lex. you are an amazing mother. your example to your kids is something they will never forget. good for you!
and what a fun place to live. i went to palmyra a few times for the hill cumorah pageant when we lived back east and it is one of the coolest places. i'm so glad you get to live there and experience this with your kids! how far away is palmyra?
and by the way, you have cafe rio there? i thought it was a utah thing!
Wow if we ever make out there, will you take us to all of those amazing places. Love the pics of "R". Our kids say Hi!!!!
Looks so fun! I want to come visit...maybe some day!
okay i'm so jealous that you guys are so close to so many awesome sites! i love that you are really taking advantage of living up there and all it has to offer. i second emily..you are such a great mom!!
What a fun day! You guys are fabulous parents. No wonder your kids are so sweet and cute - and all have such amazing spirits. Can't wait to see you guys!
the strong museum was THE BEST! we loved it. thanks!! I only wish the kiddos would have been more bored - only for the sake of good pictures - mine all turned out BLURRY!!
:)
How amazing! I love that place. I wish I could go back over and over to remember it really well. And what a good idea--me and Trevor keep saying we're going to do the switchoff, and then every weekend we don't end up going because something comes up (of course). So, what a good example you are to us! I don't even have a baby waking me up all night!
Wow you are amazing! Keep it up! Your kids are LUCKY to have you as a mom! Go Lex!!
