Junior Firefighters

Today for our playgroup we took the kids on a field trip to a fire station. Everyone was soo excited to see the big trucks and see real life heros. There were about 50 moms and kids!

Chief Harry talked to us about fire safety and talked about 'stop, drop and roll,' which was demonstrated..when to call 9-1-1 and about a fire escape plan and being safe.

Then we got to see a fireman all suited up! It was a little scary for some of the kids to see him in his gear and mask..but after a few minutes everyone adjusted and they told the kids not to run away from a person dressed like this because he was there to save them.

Then the moms got in a few Q&A..did you know the best method for extinguishing a grease fire is flour? Keep that in mind the next time you have a grease fire!

Next..exploring the trucks..we could hardly keep the kids away! They had so much fun climbing in and around the trucks and driving them, turning on the blinkers and lights..WOW! so many fun things to experience!

that looks so fun, my kids would've LOVED that. i always heard baking soda was good for a grease fire, now i know flour is better! good thing too 'cause flour is right on hand for me.

The picture of Mason in the fireman jacket is so dang cute! What a good idea for the kids to be able to see the firemen in the uniforms so they would not be scared if they saw them coming in a fire. I wouldn't have even thought of that, but it makes a lot of sense!
