Elder Gustin..you have been called to serve...

Yesterday was the day we had been waiting for. It took 19 years to come, but oh how sweet to have it finally come!

Yesterday my little brother..Jordan left to begin his two year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He will be serving in Los Angelos California, Spanish speaking. He went into the Missionary training Center yesterday at 12:00.
It was a bitter sweet day for our family. We were so excited for him to go and teach and grow in his testimony..but sad because we won't see him or talk to him for two years.

My kids and I with my BIG little brother

Our cousin Zack..he works at the MTC and came in on this day..even when it wasn't his day to work just so he could help Elder Gustin.

All the men

M and his best buddy..he wouldn't smile, he was too sad

Aunt Harry and Jordy

This is the same picture as above..only showing M stationed at Jordy's feet

Poor little M took it the hardest. He has clung to him for the past few days and when today came he just hung at his feet very somber.
This picture says it all...

Then we all walked inside the MTC..he went in one door (for missionaries) and we went in another door.

Elder Gustin (its officially his title now)had to carry M the whole time.

A quick smile from P

Once inside..he got his name tag..mom got the privilage of putting it on him

All official like..the 'greenie' how he'll look for the next two years

Looking at his new tag..all in Spanish
Then we went in to the Orientation and heard from the MTC Mission President and his wife then it was time to say goodbye. I guess M wasn't going to let Jordy go so he made a deal with him and a trade. Jordy gave M his mission pin (if you look back at the picture with the close up of his name tag you'll see what I am talking about) and M gave Jordy a little black frog.
So after all us girls bawled and hugged him as much as we could and mom and dad did the same..he walked to the right. He was composed and did great..that is until he turned around for one last look and that's when he broke down and started crying. So that is the last image of I have of my brother for the year 2008..him walking off ready to serve the Lord with tears in his eyes for how much he loved us and would miss us. It was a very sweet, but hard moment. We were so happy we could come to Utah for Christmas and get to spend this time with him.

Bittersweet times! That was my last memory of Deven when he left for his mission. What a blessing though to send a missionary off. The day will come soon enough when we will be sending our little boys off to do the Lord's work. It was good you could be here in Utah for the experience!

I know that has got to be such a hard/happy moment. Poor Mason, that is kinda cute though. Wow, I can't believe how fast times go, everyone just grows up too fast. I wish him the best of luck and was glad to see him before he left. He will be such a good missionary.

My sister served in that exact mission--LA spanish speaking. She loved it! Served with a lot of really poor, illegal immigrants, but really loved them. Her first day she tracted in Compton. Awesome.

What a wonderful, sad and happy experience. I am so glad you and your family were able to be there for it though! Even though it broke M's heart - those pictures are so sad and cute. Good luck to your brother. What a wonderful thing he is doing.

P.S. Call us if you have any free time left this trip. :)

It's so hard to say goodbye to a missionary but so great at the same time. I remember totally crying when my oldest brother left on his mission. I was really little and loved sending letters to him.

I loved the look on Parkers face when she didn't get the guitar! Cute. Let me know when you get back.

I remember that like it was yesterday! Except, no MTC for me, just a plane ride straight to Brasil! The best way to do it! He'll do well, no worries! Poor M!
